Ray Metzker Draft 2
For my first draft, I received positive feedback about the dark darks in my photographs. This week, I tried to create even more contrast, more true to Metzker's photos. I tried to "cut" the frame with deep shadows. For my last draft, I focused a lot on storefronts and very head-on views on buildings, but for this draft, I explored more dynamic angles. Again, photos are similar to imitate Metzker's multi-frame work.
I think that you did a very good job with your goal for this week, the photos do seem to be clear and sharply "cut" with shadows. Also, I like how natural the photos look (none of them look staged).
ReplyDeleteBethany, great work on Draft 2! Your work with shadows was amazing, and I really liked how each photo had a clear distinction of a dark and light side. I think the staircase images of Ben was your strongest pieces in this draft because they create such a natural look. Good Job!!
ReplyDeleteI think the distinction between the light and dark side is really strong. I also like how you have taken a lot of very similar pictures, but with slight changes in each one.
ReplyDeleteI like the storefront ones the best. I think your project would benefit well from heavy inclusion of "characters" on the street, resulting in more mysterious and candid scenes. Great work this week!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you used the shadows and the light to contrast the differences of the two things and to really cut the frame in two which I thought you did quite successfully. Overall great job this week!
ReplyDeleteI really like this series and your use of black and white. There are very clear contrasts and shadows and this makes each picture interesting to look at. I think your photographs of just the city and its skyline are the most successful. I think you should take some more shots of cityscapes, because they are very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThe shadows are much more prevalent in these photos, which makes the photos have a tone more like Ray Metzker's photos. I especially like the photos that have defined light and shadowed sections. The cityscape photos are also interesting and well executed.
ReplyDeleteGreat work Bethany! I really liked all your photos very much. I think that the city photos are the strongest, and the way the shadows compliment the building is really captured in each of your photos! I also really like the geometrical shapes that are in each photo, this created more detail and draws the viewer in. The only thing that I would look out for is making sure that nothing is blocking the frame. In one of your photos outside a corner store it is partially blocked by a big black car. However your work is very strong and intriguing, keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHi Bethany, amazing job this week. I really like how the photos are edited in black and white. I also like how there are so many shapes that are very easily seen throughout your pictures. The angles that you taking your pictures are very clear, and they are very cohesive with one another. I don't have any suggestions for you. Keep up the good work!
